CaetanoBus

CaetanoBus is a bus body manufacturing Company, set up in January 2002 as a result of a partnership between the Salvador Caetano and Daimler Chrysler Groups, being represented by Saltano SGPS and Evobus Portugal with 74% and 26%, respectively. Therefore, CaetanoBus integrated in its structure the former Divisão Fabril de Gaia, till then property of Salvador Caetano - IMVT.

The bodies built by CaetanoBus are mounted on chassis of various brands, with different specifications, bearing in mind the requirements of the customers. The majority of the products of the company is exported, being the German, English and Spanish markets the most important ones.

History

The origin of CaetanoBus goes back to 1946, when Mr. Salvador Fernandes Caetano established a plant of bodies for buses whose evolution was made through a constant and systematic work based on Innovation and Modernity, whose main relevant historic facts are:

1955
- The Company introduces the technique of all metallic construction in Portugal.

1965
- Opening of the existing manufacturing plant where CaetanoBus is today located.

1967
- Start of the exporting activity with the delivery of the first bus bodies for the United Kingdom, later to France (1974), Spain (1986), and Germany and Austria (1988).

1990
- The production of the Cobus begins (buses that will operate at aprons of airports). In 1998, Cobus nº 500 was produced.

2000
- Starts the system of integrated management of the logistic processes: SAP/R3.

2002
- Establishment of the CaetanoBus, as a result of a partnership between Salvador Caetano and Daymler Chrysler Groups.
- Restructuring of the assembly lines layout
- Participation in the IAA exhibition (Hannover) with the Tourino body
- Participation in the Coach & Bus exhibition (Birmingham)
- Participation in the FIAA exhibition (Madrid)
- 67 City-Gold units were built for STCP

2003
- Participation in the Coach & Bus exhibition
- Participation in the Inter-Airpot (Munich Airport)
- Participation in the Busworld 2003 (Courtrai)
- Launch of 2 new bus bodies (Touro and Tourino)
- Presentation of the Tourino in Gaia during visit of Minister of Economy, Dr Carlos Tavares
- Starting of the preliminary audits for the implementation of the certification of the environmental management system according to the norm ISO 14.001 and to the European Management Audit System norm (EMAS)
- Increase of the number of working stations in the CAD centre to improve the working capacity

2004
- Participation in the IAA exhibition (Hannover) with the Tourino body
- Participation in the FIAA exhibition (Madrid)
- Presentation and handover to Group Barraqueiro of the 1st Winner
- Presentation of the new fleet of citybuses for Carris which included 12 units out of an order of 110 units to be awarded to CB
- Environmental certification, according to NP EN ISO 14001:1999 norm, by APCER.

2005
- Handover in Gaia of 10 Tourinos to Group Barraqueiro
- Participation in the Inter-Airpot (Munich Airport)
- Participation in the Busworld 2005 (Courtrai)
- Launch of the first tourism bus (Levante model) fully accessible to all users

2006
- Participation in the FIAA exhibition (Madrid) with the Levante body
- Launch of the CaetanoBus site
- Re-establishment of the regular editions of the CaetanoBus News journal
